I came across this great website a while back… Votergasm.com. It encourages people to vote by asking people to give and withhold sexual activity from voters and non-voters, respectively. There are 3 levels of pledging: the first calls for voters to abstain from sex with non-voters for a week after presidential elections. The second asks voters to not only abstain from sex with non-voters for one week after elections but also to make sure to have sex with another voter on elections night. Lastly the highest pledge is to have sex with another voter on the night of the elections, and also to abstain from sex with non-voters for not one week, but four whole years until the next presidential election.

The site is outdated and only speaks the the last presidential election, which I find a little sad, but, I encourage you anyway, to take a gander at the site, considering making a pledge if only to yourself, and get your sexy self to the polls on November 4th. This could very easily be the most important election of your life.

Happy Voting!

~*~Red~*~

P.S. Make sure to read up on Prop K as well! It’s about time sex workers get the safety and support they deserve.

So the other night I was at home relaxing and conversing with friends. You know, even though I talk all day long about sex at work and most of the time it’s the last thing I want to talk about outside of work, there are still times when a topic comes up that requires extended discussion.

The topic that was brought to my attention the other evening was the various names for oral sex. The almost rhetorical question that was delivered to me was why there are slang “names” for fellatio and male masturbation but not for cunnilingus. Now there are plenty of ‘action’ terms for going down on a female bodied person… You know- polishing the pearl, muff diving, box munching, pussy eating, etc. But what about just a name for it, like something you could give or receive from someone else. Male bodied folks can receive blow jobs and hand jobs (and give them) but what jobs are there for female bodied folks?

After some serious soul searching and deliberation I coughed up the term pearl job. But after rolling it over my tongue a few times I realized it was too close to pearl jam and that because of that it could never reach the same levels of usage as it’s phallus-oriented counterparts.

So I pose the question to you, GV Blog readers…

What kind of a ‘job’ is pussy eating?

Also, I know it’s been a long while… But your Sex Tip of the Day is here again. When delivering a ‘pearl job’, do pay attention to the pearl but don’t forget there’s a whole lot more going on down there than a clitoris. Put your mouth on everything, move your tongue around all of your partners parts, and trying stimulating the whole clitoris- including the shaft.

Hoping your next box lunch really delivers,

Red

So… I got a fabulous customer on the phone the other day asking for advice on learning to talk dirty to her partner in bed. She had asked if there were any video’s on the subject or any films that might give her ideas of what to say. There is one video I can think of on the subject that we used to carry for sale but now only rent, called Talk to Me, Baby! It’s a great queer video by Shar Rednour featuring mostly dyke couples and a couple straight folks, though I think anyone could learn a bunch from it.

As far as inspirational videos, however… In mainstream porn, most films have nasty dialogue going on that you could take a line or two from. What is easier to reccomend are the actors who are known for their spectacular slut-speak performances. My favorites? Tory Lane, Belladonna, Gianna, and Joanna Angel. The are also a couple of male performers known to inspire dirty dialogue as well… off the top of my head I would suggest looking for titles with Manuel Ferraera and Nick Manning. Some titles to help get you started:

1. Evil Pink (all-girl with Belladonna)

2. Strap Attack 5 (strap-on with Gianna)

3. Jesse in Pink (wall-to-wall with Tory Lane)

4. Aqua Erotic (wall-to-wall with Nick Manning)

5. Expert Guide to Anal Sex (sex-ed with Manuel Ferrara)

These videos should give you some good ideas, but sometimes we’re still a little shy when it comes to actually delivering those lines in the moment.

If you’re having trouble saying nasty things to your partner, try talking dirty to yourself first. When you’re doing household chores practice delivering nasty one-liners louder than you actually would. That’ll make it easier to deliver them in a regular voice or a sultry whisper later on. Try talking to yourself in the shower, hell your already naked and wet! When you’re masturbating talk to yourself… Tell yourself what a nasty little whore you are, or how wet your pussy is, or how badly you want someone to smack your ass. The important part here is to find out what turns you on. Hopefully talking to yourself will help you find out what you inner slut sounds like… It’s kinda exciting, you don’t really know who you’ll be until you try it.

Don’t kick yourself if you don’t like talking dirty… You can even just try verbalizing what you’re feeling to your partner. This is the biggest reason people talk dirty in my opinion. It’s a way to communicate your desires to your partner without making them feel as though they’ve been doing something wrong. You can always try just telling your partner when you like something. “That feels sooooooo good” sounds better than “Ooh.”

And a Sex Tip of the Day for you…

Next time you masturbate pretend you’re a porn star or a stripper or a domme. Dress up, fantasize, and perform for yourself. Talk to yourself or pretend to talk to a partner, you could even set up a camera and talk to that. Pretending you’re someone else is a great way to find your inner slut.

So Nasty,

So, I think most people here at Good Vibes know how much I love porn. I mean I really love it. I profess my love daily by enthusiastically reccomending title after title to customers and coworkers. And I think my love for porn might actually be contagious because I’ve had the quietest customers start dishing to me about their porno rants and raves in minutes. As a self-qualified pornophile I’m extremely lucky for two reasons, one- I have a job where I can watch as much porn as I want for free and two- my girlfriend is just as passionate about porn as I am. So needless to say, I watch a lot of it, more than most people in this company, I’d pressume… And since GVA-TWN joined forces with Good Vibes be have been flooded with so many amazing new titles we weren’t able to carry before that it’s been an absolute pornocopia here in the stores. I take a new title home almost every night and I’m happy to say that I have been coming across some really awesome films in my viewing, and I wanted to share a couple of my recent favorites with you custies out there in Web Land.

Jesse Jane’s HUSH… This film is directed by none other than Celeste. Now I have to say that I’m not familiar with that much of her work but have heard many great things about her. I rented HUSH for a couple reasons… Jesse Jane is fantastic, Jean Val Jean is smokin’ hot, and I wanted to see what Celeste was about because people often ask me about women-directed porn. The verdict on this one is HOT HOT HOT! The film is all in slow-motion, but not too slow that it keeps you from being able to jill-off but slow enough that it intensifies the interactions between the performers. And the film is also shot in this gorgeous lighting which accentuates all the curves and folds of the performers bodies. The standout scene for me was the first with Jesse and Jean Val Jean, the way they smack and tease eachother sends a whole heap of chemistry through the screen. Beware though, if you like the sounds of sex, this movie might not be for you as all the scenes are set to music.

Dana DeArmond’s Rolemodeling… Um, brilliant. I didn’t know amateur could get this good. The premise of the film is Dana and her boyfriend, the phenomenal Daniel, choosing young hotties who wanna break into the porn scene from their MySpace ‘friends’. Oh Dana and her MySpace, it is working. Awesome crafty sets, a bumpin’ soundtrack, quirky cute Dana, and some hot lispy ladies make this flick probably one of my all time favs. The standout scene, which my girlfriend still can’t shut up about, is between Daniel and Casper Vice. All I can say is that their chemistry was infectious, and Daniel was blown away by the 18 year old’s performance. He kept looking up at Dana, behind the camera, in excited disbelief. He looked like a kid at Disneyland. It was awesome!!!!!!! I can’t wait for her to be in more movies. If Dana was looking for the new Alt It Girl, she found her.

And Joanna Angel’s Girls Girls Girls… So this is Joanna’s girl/girl directorial debut. I have to say I was slightly aprehensive that it would have too much production value for an Alt film or it would be lacking the chemistry that a lot of pussy on pussy porn is lacking. Oh man, I should have known better. Joanna is a superstar. This film delivered hot Alt babes, great sets and costumes, tons of fun-lovin’ pussy lickin’ chemistry, natural bodies, and HITACHI’s!!!!!! When I saw them break out the Hitachi I knew Joanna was serious. It guest stars in several scenes and there’s even a special feature scene with Pinky Lee and her Magic Wand, where she talks about why she loves it so much. It’s just phenomenal! In fact I think I need to rent it again.

Anyway, hope you can dig these reccomendations, they’re all awesome. For now take theis advice as your Sex Tip of the Day:

Watch the extra’s man! Sometimes they’re boring but more often then not they’ll let you get to know the actors a lot better which can make watching them have sex with eachother even hotter. Plus there are always bloopers which are funny and hot in a way that scripted scenes can’t always be.

Lovin’ the smut,

Reading is really sexy. I know so many of you out there agree… And you have been so disappointed by how the book sections in our stores have been lacking and I’m so sorry you’ve been waiting so long. I hear your disappointment loud and clear, which is why I am so excited to tell you to unpack your sexy librarian glasses cause books are back in business at Good Vibrations!

We still don’t have everything we used to carry or everything we’re planning on carrying in the near future, but we’ve got a lot more than we’ve had over the last couple months. I wanted to point you to some of my all time favorites we’ve got back on the shelves and some awesome new titles as well.

This here is a new title we’ve just picked up that many of us at work are buzzing about. Smut is a series put out by Nerve.com, this is the first volume. I haven’t had a chance to thumb through it yet but our reviewer loved it and if the dirty pictures spaced out between the stories are any gauge it should be HOT.

Super excited about this one. The Pleasure’s All Mine is an autobiographical sketch of the life of a professional submissive. Yes, that’s right, a Pro-Sub. Joan Kelly writes to give us a glimpse into her unique career, and with that a heart felt account of the relationships she developed and the incredibly hot scenes she makes a living by.

Best Erotic Comics 2008. What else is there to say? A diverse cast of quirky illustrations inhabit these pages. Beware these evil mixtures of raunch and cuteness… and enjoy. And, duh, Phoebe Gloeckner, as if you needed anymore reasons to own this.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty is the first in A. N. Roqulaure’s (aka Anne Rice) trilogy about the life of Sleeping Beauty after that fateful kiss. Instead of a happily ever after, the author steers the story into an incredible tale of power exchange and SM. Yum, and we’ve got all three on the shelves.

Okay, gentlemen, and lover’s of gentlemen, if you own any sexuality book ever, The Multi-Orgasmic Man should be it. Thought men were only capable of one kind of climax, think again. In this priceless gem of a book, Mantak Chia teaches his readers through a series of simple exercises how to postpone ejaculation, experience full body orgasms, and reach multi-orgasmic status. Seriously, I think this book is one of the best books ever written- ever.

Do you eat pussy? Do you want to? Then this darling guide by Diana Cage is the perfect one for you. Cage is an awesomely frank author who knows what she’s talking about and delivers useful, no-nonsense advice, tips, and how-tos. Cage typically writes for a queer audience, but her insightful instruction and quirky humor can be enjoyed by any enthusiastic muff diver. Box Lunch, it’s what’s for dinner.

By far my favorite rope bondage manual. These guys give you a little of everything… Tip, techniques, and how to’s for sex bondage, restraint bondage, and aesthetic bondage. Showing You The Ropes includes easy to follow step-by-step instructions accompanied by clear photo illustrations in a guide that’s fit for beginners and intermediates alike. (In stores only for the time being.)

We just got this new title in from Sadie Allison, and it is absolutely fabulous. Chocked full of the quirky illustrations and playful wit we’ve all grown accustomed to, Ride’em Cowgirl is a comprehensive collection of sex positions. Included are positions and tips for g-spot stimulation, oral sex, pregnancy, and even a section for getting sexy with fat bodies. Finally, a sex book with fat-positive content!!! I can’t scream my praise loud enough for that one… Another post, another post…

So you can see, there are many many pages to flip through, once again, here at Good Vibrations. So throw a book in with that order or plop yourself on the comfy cushions in our stores and leaf through all the great material we’ve got to offer…

See you soon in Study Hall,

~*~Red~*~

Oh yes, yes… Your Sex Tip of the Day:

Book burning is wrong and much of the time I feel like that’s what our culture does with written works that confront our anxieties and inadequacies as a society. If folks just read or listened to the words written on the pages they feel so desperately need to be destroyed, they might not feel such a desperate angst towards them in the first place. Catch 22, huh?

But seriously folks, I just peaked at CJ’s post on the Sex Worker’s Art Show and it really upset me. People can be very ignorant, which in and of itself is not wrong, but when people refuse to own that ignorance and then crusade it against others they don’t understand, we end up with epic tragedies like the Witch Trials, the Jim Crow laws, the Holocaust, and the Christian Right. Are those results worth saving our children from a little diversity?

So at last, your sex tip of the day… Speak up. Whenever you get the chance, talk to people about sex politics, sexuality, and sex-positivity. Attend art shows, performances, lectures, and films that promote open dialogue about sexuality. Support politicians who seek to decriminalize the sex industry. Watch porn, read erotica. Have sex, and talk to someone about it. Support your local sex shop and demand higher standards.

Doing just one or two of these things during your lifetime will help make this world a better one for your children, trust me. The more comfortable, open, and safe people feel about sex, the less danger there will be for you or your children to come up against in this world.

Ask any of my coworkers what my favorite two topics of discussion are and they’re tell you:

Porn and Female Ejaculation.

While I’d love to spend this post ranting and raving about my favorite films and directors and stars, it’ll have to wait until another time, because today we’re gonna talk about Squirting.

There are a lot of politics around female ejaculation actually, which are interesting. For a long time people have been hellbent on demonizing any juices a woman expels into the world. Menstrual blood: disgusting. Piss: vulgar. Pussy Discharge: diseased. Spit: crude. Tears: weakness. Ejaculate: non-existent. It’s funny that people are so ashamed of a woman secreting from her body, when men are so praised for doing so. (Funny I didn’t mention lactation, perhaps because our existence depends upon it, men and women.)

In past eras it wasn’t always so. Ejaculate in the ancient ages of many cultures was considered to be something divine, highly sought after and prized by the lovers of women. I feel like we might be entering a new time of sexual awareness and acceptance at present. People are more and more taking the time to become learned lovers, experimenting with new relationships, new playthings, and new activities. Pornography and erotica are weaving their way into the mainstream of popular culture. Perhaps as more and more people begin fully developing their sexuality there will be a massive rediscovery and new appreciation for female ejaculation and the awesome time awaiting those who are willing to experience it.

At the time being however, I’d just like to put a little lesson out there for folks who might be wondering about this fabulous pastime.

What is ejaculate?

Well it’s not pee, for one. It’s a fluid that’s produced in the Skene’s gland, which some folks have referred to as a degenerate prostate, evolutionarily speaking. The fluid that is made sometimes mixes with a little urine on it’s way out if you haven’t completely emptied your bladder before hand. Don’t worry though, as long as you are healthily hydrated and recently piddled your cum should be plenty pure.

Where does it come from?

Upon arousal, the periurethral sponge poofs up and swells: capillaries open to allow blood to flow into the tissue and the Skene’s gland goes to work cooking up ejaculate. A ripe periurethral sponge is what folks refer to as the G-spot. Because it is so swollen, with blood and smaller amounts of ejaculate, it feels good to touch. When one presses repeatedly on that spongy area known as the G-spot, ejaculate can actually be milked from the sponge and will drip, spill, or squirt out of the urethra.

What does it look/feel/taste/smell like?

Well, this is tricky. It can look/feel/taste/smell different coming from different people and at different times. (No pun intended there…) Sometimes it’s crystal clear like water, other times its thick and has more of a tint to it. It can taste sweet or salty like butter, if it has a little pee mixed in there might be a slightly bitter taste. Sometimes it feels thin and light like water, and other times like a slick almost syrupy liquid. Sometimes it’s quite pungent and musky, other times you can’t really smell it at all. The point here is that everyone and every time is different. Things that affect what your ejaculate smells, tastes, feels, and looks like are hydration, time of your cycle, foods you’ve eaten, stress, drugs (nicotine and alcohol even), etc.

How can I learn to squirt?

Practice. Take into consideration all that’s been brought to you in this lesson- hydration, milking the G-spot, extended arousal time, relaxation, letting go of hang ups (”but i don’t want to pee in bed”), etc. Also try playing with a little pressure on the urethral opening. By gently covering the urethral opening while milking the G-spot you actually start building up excess pressure which might help create a more impressive stream upon release. (Note: Be careful with this and make sure to pee afterwards. You don’t want any urinary infections from pushing liquid back up into your bladder.) You can also learn to shoot further by increasing the strength of your PC muscles and learning to control their contractions.

How can I increase the amount juice I produce?

Two suggestions here. One, stay hydrated. The more H2O in your body the more ejaculate your body will be able to produce. Two, keep teasing. The longer the arousal period, i.e. the amount of time your body has to produce juice before expelling it from the body, the more juice there will be to expel.

Can I transmit STIs though ejaculate?

Simple answer: YES. I’m not entirely sure on what all you can or cannot transmit (due to a lack of serious research on this subject), but my professional opinion is that squirting is another form of fluid bonding, and if you aren’t ready to do that with your partner you might want to wait a while before squirting all over each other’s body. My professional advice is to keep the same safe sex boundaries around squirting that you have around other sexual activities.

Got any videos or books on the subject?

The best book I’ve come across so far is Female Ejaculation and the G-spot. As far as instructional videos, Female Ejaculation for Couples is useful, though a little outdated. There’s also Female Ejaculation – The Workshop. There are some great porn films out there though that have incredible ejaculation scenes: Belladonna and Cytherea in Evil Pink, Jiz Lee in The Crash Pad, and Flower Tucci and Randy Spears in Tailgunners are just three highlights. We also just got in a couple SuperSquirt DVDs as well, which I’m still waiting, excitedly, to check out.

Okay I think I may have outdone myself this time… I know that was a lot to read, I hope you all got something out of it. If you have another question I didn’t answer this time around, feel free to leave any questions or thoughts in the comment space, I’d love to answer them in another post.

For now, though, I leave you with a Sex Tip of the Day: If you know you’re gonna get pretty wet keep a couple towels handy. A small hand towel is great for wiping down pussies, cocks, butts and thighs. A larger towel will be perfect for lying down before the scene to keep the bed or carpet dry, or for lying down after the fact to soak it all up. No one really likes to sleep on the wet spot.

Have fun, and remember: drink at least 8 cups of water a day, you never had a better reason.

Always up for a good splash,

As i was reading your post, i was hoping that it would include something about the ‘female sexual enhancement’ products that are out there. I won’t name any of them here, but there are a lot of choices (lotions, ointments, pills, etc.) if you search for that term. Do you or anyone out there have a recommendation based on ACTUAL USE, not because you’re selling it.

Thanks very much,
Natalie

Dear, dear Natalie… I’m afraid you missed the entire point of this post {Mood Creams, Shmood Creams}. I do know of the ‘female sexual enhancement’ products out there, as seen on late night televsion. As far as I know, or anyone else here at Good Vibrations for that matter, there are no products out there that actually deliver what they purport to. This, is the main reason we don’t carry them. If there was something that worked we’d likely stock it. But in fact, most of the products we carry are aimed for ‘female sexual enhancement’ and they do work. Try porn, erotica, a sex guide, a tingling balm, a vibrator, a dildo, nipple clips, a blindfold, some bondage tape, a romantic date, a sexy set of lingere, talking with your partner about what turns you on and gets you off.

Unfortunately, Natalie, there are no cheat sheets for sex. In order to get an A+, you gotta do the work. Like, athletics, you don’t become a great player by shooting up, you become a great player by practicing all the time and really honing in on your skill by accepting constructive feedback and delivering it, when appropriate, to your teamates. Take some time to get to know your body, genitals and mind. Learn about what you find sexy and what makes you wet. Then, and this is the kicker…. Tell your partner. By keeping this from them you are leaving your partner(s) in the dark and depriving them of the chance to be a great lover. And you’re depriving yourself of the chance to be greatly loved.

Hoping you find what you’re after,

~*~Red Delicious~*~

The Sex Tip of the Day? Read carefully. That means really listen when your partner talks to you about their needs or desires between the sheets. Sometimes we allow our own fantasies and assumptions to filter what we hear from our partners. If your partner tells you they want you to call them Daddy, maybe it’s not an incest thing their interested in… Maybe it’s age play, or alternate gender roles, or power dynamics that they’re looking to explore. Also read your sex guides intently. Sometimes the best information is tucked inbetween the lines.

(And, I know some folks may be upset to hear me say this, but it’s actually okay to explore incest in role play and fantasy, too. It’s a powerful dynamic, and can be very emotive experience for the players involved. And remember, that’s what fantasy and role play are about, exploring relationships and situations, that might not be appropriate to experience in real life… )

Okay folks… I hope I don’t offend anyone but I have to vent about my biggest pet peeve in this job:

When customers ask for gimmicky “aphrodisiacs” (not the right word, I know, but can’t think of a better one)…

We’re talking mood creams, orgasm pills, anti-ejaculation spray, anal desensitizers, etc. It drives me berserk when people ask me for this stuff and let me tell you why. Sex takes time folks, you’ve got to work to get the reward. And why wouldn’t you want sex to take time, it’s so much fun. I wish I had more time to spend whole days doin’ it: lingering, quick, rough, tender, vanilla, kinky, one, two, three people at a time. Besides the results are so much better when you take your time to really enjoy your partner(s). It gives you time to tease and build and explode, over and over and over again.

Okay, so really, I understand why folks ask me for these things. Everyone wants to be sexually satisfied. Some folks aren’t and think these things might help them be. I hate to break it to you though, there’s no pill you can pop, no cream you can slather on that will immediately make your sex life incredible. You’ll have more luck renting a video, buying a book, and grabbing a new toy. But for learning’s sake let’s talk a little about each of these gimmicks and see if I can’t find an actual solution from right here in the store.

Mood Creams: I get asked for these a lot. From both women and they’re partners and I have to say mostly straight folks. The underlying dilemma here is that the chick isn’t always in the mood when the guy is. Possible reasons? Different sex drives, relationship issues, personal baggage, lack of sexual gratification (on her part, guys), not enough sleep, and even some medications can curb sexual appetites. My prescription? Erotica. Porn. Ask her what she wants between the sheets. Settle arguments. Communicate. See a counselor. Add some kink. Get a new toy. Make compromises. Talk to a doctor. Get some good rest. Take some time to seduce your parnter. Compliment her. Tell her at least once a day how fucking hot she is. See if that doesn’t put her in the mood.

Orgasm Pills: This is what people ask for when they’re having trouble coming. Again mostly this is women asking and they want a quick fix or an easy button. Trouble is, there isn’t one. There are many road blocks to climax: anxiety, lack of proper stimulation, low sensitivity, medications, not enough build-up, lack of lubrication, etc. At least here there are plenty of options that can help. Got anxiety? Try sensual massage, meditate, or talk to a counselor. Not being stimulated properly? Tell your partner what you like. Remember how you come when you masturbate. Try a new method (vibration, penetration, oral, rubbing, etc). Don’t feel anything? Try a pump or a vibe or both. Suction can bring more blood into your clit which will make it more sensitive. Better yet, have your partner create a little suction for you. In really severe cases you can talk to a doctor about options similar to Viagra for men. I don’t know what’s out there but I have heard some women say Viagra makes their clit more sensitive. That’s one gimmick I’m not ready to debunk, just cause I don’t know enough. Lack of build up? Slow things down. Spend longer periods of time talking dirty, making out, rubbing up on each other, and having oral sex. And lastly, if your just not getting wet enough add some lube for goodness sake! There’s like a million different kinds out there.

Anti-ejaculation Spray: This is almost the opposite request from above. Guys frequently come in asking if we carry products that will make them have an everlasting erection. My response? Sorry, bros, but no. And all the anti-ejaculation sprays out there are just topical numbing agents. Do you know what that means? That means you won’t be able to feel the pussy, ass, or mouth your fucking… Lame. Technically, Viagra is actually capable of making an erection last a bit longer than it normally would, but it’s a drug and it’s really meant for folks who are having actual problems making through even one round. And even so, you should be getting it through a licensed physician, not over the counter from your local sex shop. So how then do you last longer? Well, for one: practice. Try to learn more about your sexual response signals. Try the stop and go exercise… Masturbate or fuck until right before you think your gonna come and then stop and do something else for a bit- rub your chest or tweak your nipples; hell go down on your partner again for a bit. Then when you’ve calmed down some, rinse and repeat. You can also pick up a book, a very specific book: Mantak Chia’s Multi-Orgasmic Man. Read that and then ask me again.

Anal desensitizers: Similar to the aforementioned product, these are numbing agents. Let me be quite frank with you. Numbing agent + Ass = BAD. “Why?” you ask. “Doesn’t it make it easier to put things in my butt?” No actually, that’s what lube is for. Numbing agents will not make it easier to shove a dick or a giant plug up your butt… You just won’t be able to feel your skin tear from too much too fast too soon. Have no fear though, lube works wonders for ass play. Butts like slippery fingers and toys much better than dry ones. Another thing to remember is that the ass needs to exercise before it can work with the really big visitors. Start small and work your way up to said dick or giant plug. Trust me, Belladonna had to practice to become the ass-champion she is today. Also, relax. Your butt is a tension epicenter and needs time to chill out before accommodating any guests. Helpful relaxation methods? Rimming, external vibration, sensual massage, even meditation… Whatever works for you, just take your time so you can feel the fabulousness and not get hurt.

Okay, that’s my rant for today… Hope you enjoyed!

Sincerely,

~*~Red~*~

Oh and P.S. Your Sex Tip of the Day: Next time you get hot and heavy challenge yourself to make-out out with your partner as long as possible before reaching in for the naughty bits. That means clothes on, kissing and rubbing only. You may also whisper naughties into each other’s ear, but that’s it! See how wet and hard you can get just by doing that… By the time you get around to the main dish(es), you’ll be guaranteed an incredible time.

The other night we had the lovely pleasure of a visit from Doctors Carol Queen and Robert Lawrence. The event was the latest in a series of in-store classes called Ask The Doctors. These classes are free events and happen on a regular basis at all our Bay Area locations. Tonight’s class focused on Erotic Role Play and the last presentation I got to listen in on was a lesson in Fellatio.

These classes are a hidden gem in this city. Carol and Robert are phenomenal teachers and have a wealth of knowledge between the two of them that is unmatched. I learn something new and great from them every time we have the chance to talk. I wanted to share with you the last few things I learned that left the greatest impression.

Lesson 1: For an easier time deep-throating your partner, lie face-up on a bed or sofa with your head hanging over the edge. In this position your partner can insert their cock into your mouth and the curve of your throat and their dick will be compatible. This will make it easier for you to take them further inside your throat.

Lesson 2: If you and/or your partner are having trouble finding their inner sex persona, try starting from scratch. Sometimes when we start feeling really comfortable in a relationship, things can get stagnant and we can easily forget what characters or activities are erotically charged for us. Carol suggests scheduling a date with your partner, but as strangers. Before hand decide when and where you’ll meet, and go from there pretending you’ve never met before. This sounds fun even if your relationship hasn’t settled down yet. Carol says this can bring out parts of yourself you’ve forgotten about or never knew of in the first place. Who knows, perhaps the second time around you’re a snooty socialite submissive or a dominating teenage don juan.

Lesson 3: On occasion, when trying something new in bed that’s super-charged for me I get an awful case of giggles. I know I’m not alone in this. And trust me I really want to be the corporate bitch who get’s shoved into place by her young assistant… but I just get nervous, and then it’s over and I start to laugh. This is all theoretical, but really, I know a lot of us experience this in bed with our partners and always when it’s just getting to the good part. Now, laughing during sex isn’t bad. I hope we all giggle with our partners, but sometimes during role-play or certain activities it can take away from the experience or hinder someone’s ability to fully get into it. So how to we get rid of the giggles? Robert said first to talk about it with your partner(s) before hand. Like, “Hey I’m really excited to do this scene but I think I might get nervous at some point. If I start laughing…” Robert also said that in the midst of playing if you get the giggles, sometimes it helps if your partner asserts some kind of touch or action that totally turns you on- a smack on the cheek, a firm grab of the crotch, a passionate kiss, dirty whispers into the ear. This will likely bring you right back into the proper place and you can continue on your sexual adventure.

Well, I hope you enjoyed these lessons as much as I did. Remember, though, that you too are invited to these events and Carol and Roberts’ lessons are much more fun in person. You can keep abreast of these events and others on our Community Events page. We’d love to have you!

And lastly, your Sex Tip of the Day: Knowledge is power and prowess… Nothing is sexier than being a learned lover. So go ahead- get your school on!

Supremely skilled and still learning,

So two things of note today, or should I say, two colors. First let’s begin with Purple. They customer interaction was short and sweet, but nevertheless meaningful, and went a little something like this…

Custie “Hi.”

Me “Hi.”

Custie “Do you have anymore of these in the back?”

Me “No, unfortunately we don’t. Is there something wrong with this one?”

Custie “Na… Purple’s just so much more fun!”

Really? Is that the reason? Purple’s more fun? Ever since I started this job I wondered why everything we carry comes in purple. From double dildos to anal beads to vibrators to kits, this color dominates the store. I used to think our buyer just had a strong affinity for the color until she pointed out it sells the best, which still left to be known: why? So I ask you, is that the reason? Do people really find purple to be the most exciting, sexy, spunky, and all around fun color in the rainbow. Personally, I really dig black and red, light pink and blue are nice as well, and pearly white is so goddess like. Maybe it’s just that I see so much purple every day that it doesn’t thrill me anymore, or maybe I’m just so biased by my own favorite color (I’ll give you one guess) that it blinds me from the cosmic benefits of Purple. You tell me…

Secondly, Green. What a lively color this one is and all the rage. “Going Green” is hitting everyone from hippies to yuppies, activists to lawmakers, children to seniors, and with good reason. Even in the sex industry people are really focusing on how to make toys and be environmentally conscious and the same time. Many manufacturers are moving to make products without the use of pthalates (toxic plasticizers). After speaking with our toy buyer, Vibratex finally created a phthalate-free version of the famous Rabbit Pearl vibrator so they can support the greening of our business. (Note: The pthalate-free version of the Rabbit Pearl is currently in stores only.) Nob Essence is a completely green company who makes beautiful toys out of sustainable hardwoods. At GV we offer many green choices and solutions when it comes to your playtime.

I’ve stumbled across a couple articles recently which discuss how to green your sex life. I think this is great, because it is one area of our lives that often goes unnoticed in that regard. There are so many things you can do to make your sex lives green: dispose of your contraceptives properly, choose lubricants that are paraben-free, refrain from buying wasteful gag gifts, and buy toys that use safer, longer-lasting materials like silicone, hard plastic, steel, and glass. You can also learn how to use fewer batteries with your vibrators, which is mostly what I wanted to write about today.

*To eliminate battery use completely, you can invest in an electric or rechargeable vibrator like the Hitachi or the Delight.

*Store your batteries outside of your toys, this will extend the life of your batteries (meaning you’ll use fewer) and the life of your toy’s motor (which means it will last longer).

*Purchase toys that use batteries more efficiently. The Little Somethings from Jimmy Jane for example last 16 hours on one AA battery.

*Dispose of your batteries and dead vibrators appropriately. Set up a little bucket under the sink and throw dead ones in there. When it’s full, take it to the dump so they can put it with other hazardous waste, like your broken vibes and other electronics. If you can’t easily get to the dump here is a webpage that offers another solution in San Francisco, or you can google “Battery Recycling” to find solutions in your area.

And last but not least, your Sex Tip of the Day:

Rechargeable batteries may seem like a very green idea, but they actually aren’t great for many toys. Most battery operated vibrators that we sell in the store recommend against them on the packaging. The main reason for not using rechargeables is that they heat up very quickly and can damage the motor of your toy or even melt the material. Never leave rechargeables in your vibes, ever. If you must insist on using them anyway, store them in a small pouch or ziplock with your toy. Melted vibes aren’t green.

Loving being green,
