The Japanese animation, comic book and porn industry learned early that girly faces on sexually mature women's bodies were a big hit. The formula has only become more acute as its been refined over the years. I realize that comparing Japanese sexual predilections with American sexual mores is a bit of apples and oranges, but given the popularity of anime like 'Sailor Moon' and the explosive sale of manga in the US to the tween and adolescent market in the last five to ten years, not to mention the influence of Japanese and Asian video games, I think there's something to be taken away from the comparison.
