LGBT rights vary widely from place to place. With all of the current hoopla in the US about same-sex marriage, I think it’s important to recognize the struggles queers face in other places.
The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) has created a world map showing the places where queers are protected, where queers are threatened with the death penalty, and everything in between. While the organization is very inclusive, the map focuses on lesbian & gay rights in particular. They’ve also created a world survey of laws prohibiting same sex activity between consenting adults, which is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. It was updated in May 2009, so it’s quite current.

I read an article similar to this just the other day. It’s sad to still see such hatred going on in the world. I also notice the countries that impose the death penalty for the most part still live in the stone age. With outdated religious beliefs and other crazy ideas about life, it will be hard to get those people to change ways. To live and let live is so easy, I personally don’t see why anyone would live any other way.
