Sex Questions from the Twittersphere: Sex-Positive Educators in Hawai`i?

By Dr. Carol Queen • Apr 8th, 2009 • Category: Blog, Carol Queen

Question:

Know of any sex-positive educators in the Honolulu area? Or good references for self learning?

Hmm! I’ll want to do a little research for you re: the first question (unless we have some HI folks tuned in who would like to weigh in on this?) – for your second question I’d say that there are books, videos and websites out there that will answer practically any question you have, or put you on the track to sexual exploration and growth.

I’d like to hear back re: whether there are particular things you have questions about (and if you want to let me know, at carol@carolqueen.com, I may be able to specify some resources for you).

But some basics: Scarleteen.com is a site for youth, the only one that incorporates pleasure as well as health, and they discuss any- and everything on the minds of the young folks who go there and ask questions. A wealth of info there. Heather Corinna, who runs it, also has a book out called S.E.X. – and it’s a very good place to begin, even if you’re not a teen any more. The GoodVibes.com website is packed with info… start hunting around and in this online magazine and the sexuality info sections and many questions will be answered.

  1. Hi Carol:
On O’ahu Bob Dinwiddie has worked (not sure if he is retired now) for the State Department of Education as a sex education consultant. Great guy and very knowledgeable and innovative. I haven’t seen him for many years as I moved away from O’ahu to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii years ago, but he would be a great starting point.
    Aloha and Good luck!
    Joe
