New book in stock! “Working Sex” edited by Annie Oakley
By CJ • Apr 18th, 2008 • Category: BlogIt seems to me that we have been talking about sex work a lot on this blog in the past few months, and it also seems to me that the whole world is starting to talk about it a little bit more, as well. A subtle shift in a more understanding, supportive direction… or a new trendy dinner party topic? I guess we shall see.
Either way, the new anthology, “Working Sex” is sure to be part of the movement, wherever it may be moving.
The anthology is a collection of writings by a wide variety of sex workers, and each piece is very different from the rest in experience, perception, and narrative. it includes writing from Amber Dawn, Bruce La Bruce, Michelle Tea, Eileen Myles, Emi Koyama, Nomy Lamm, Kirk Read, Jennifer Blowdryer, Ana Voog, Vaginal Davis, and so many more. they are pornographers, escorts, peepshow performers, fetish workers, etc as well as artists, activists, and dare I say *exceptionally* good writers.
”Working Sex” was edited by Annie Oakley, the creator and director of the 10-years-running Sex Worker’s Art Show, a cabaret set out to showcase the creative geniuses, political activists, and sexy superstars of the sex-working community.
Here’s a quick quote from Annie Oakley’s incredible indtroduction:
“How would we represent ourselves if given the opportunity? In ten years of working in the business and meeting other whores, the one thing that’s become apparent is that none of us can agree on a take on any aspect of the work….
Experienced or experimental, poetic or pornogrpahic, angry or academic, the pieces compliment each other, and through thier differences begin to articulate a fuller picture of the amazing humans who populate the mysterious landscape of the business.”
Good Vibrations is currently carrying this book, although I don’t see it on the website yet. Give us a call at 1-800-BUY-VIBE or stop by one of our stores to get your copy now!
