While I think that the increased access and accessibility of porn of all types could contribute in some small way to a decrease in rape, I'd have to think it'd be a rather small decrease. Rape is normally about power and domination, not necessarily about sex.

However, maybe greater access to BDSM porn and groups (even if not mainstream) has made an even larger impact that porn in general.

I do have to chuckle when I see the comments of Miss Dines. 95% of all statistics are made up to support the platform someones showing. Even though I made that up just now Im sure its as valid as her comments of only "34% of rapes are ever reported" let alone that the women are believed less and less.

As a woman, a feminist, and as a sex toy buyer I am fully pro-porn. Not just for the pleasure it brings the viewer but watching porn can enhance a person's sex life - solo or with a partner. Seeing something done, that you maybe didn't think could/should be done, can be enlightening and it can also be validating.

Rape is not about sex but about power and violence. Rape is not perpetuated as a form of sexual release but as a form of oppression and rage.

In my mind the two are not linked as a cause/effect.

I was actually glad to see this perspective written about and hope it leads to more comprehensive studies from a pro-porn perspective.

This world doesn't need more shame or sex-negativity. Sexual expression, whether for art, intellectual pleasure or just getting off, is important.

Just wanted to clarify... no anti-porn sentiment here...

The work I've done in porn has made me a stronger person, more owning of my sexuality, and thus better equipped to protect myself from rape.

When someone says 'pornography is the cause of rape', I think they have a very specific idea of what "pornography" is. Thus they eliminate all other forms of media that depict sexuality.

The possibility for pornographic films to educate and inform is very, very high. As someone who is queer, and who is genderqueer, the dyke/trans porn I participate in is a validating component of the queer community to take the power of sexual gaze into our own hands.

"Food for thought… that’s for sure."
Myself, pornography is the sole cause of rape and it must be banned. I agree
