Who reads a text book cover to cover?
By Donatella • Aug 8th, 2007 • Category: Books & Videos, SESASince I’m a newly hired SESA, I get to experience many great training opportunities. We just completed a 3 part training course in everything from Male and Female Sexuality to Anal Play to BDSM to Sex Positive Sales. The training was amazing, with our very own sex educators Jo-El and Dr. Charlie Glickman, and we all really learned a lot. I am now a certified SESA! YAY! I even have a certificate to prove that I am an official sex nerd!
SESA’s also have to complete an extensive reading list covering many topics within the first 6 months of hire. The book list is very large but of course very educational. I started the reading my 1st week here, and now after a month, I’ve only managed to finish 2 books (1 of which was a picture book!)! I chose to begin at the top of the list and with the largest book. Man was that a crazy idea.
The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex 3rd Edition is one of the largest, most complete sex guides available today. This book really covers it all. Here is just an overview of the topics covered: About GV; Sexual Self-Image; Sexual Anatomy; Sex Over a Lifetime; Communication; Masturbation; Lubrication (I like all the -tions in a row!); Creative Touching; Oral Sex; Vibrators; Penetration; Dildos; Anal Toys; Fantasies; Books, Magazines, and Videos; World Wide Web; S/M and Power Play; Where Sex Toys Come From; Safer Sex; Censorship. Woowee, that is quite a lot of material to cover in just 305 pages. And cover it it does. No stone is left unturned in this expansive sex manual. I really think that this should be a text book for high school sexuality classes. It covers so much material and is hands down one of the best sexual reference guides out there today. I wish I would have read this book 10 years ago; it really would have changed a lot of experiences in my life.
I believe everyone should have this book on their bedside table. It has SO much helpful information that will always come in handy. (Except of the very outdated World Wide Web chapter. Technology is always evolving, so this chapter will most likely always behind the times.) It is best used as a reference guide, though. I do not recommend trying to read this book from cover to cover. I got so burnt out that the last 50 pages were like molasses, and I read 800 page books for leisure! But it really is a wonderful reference guide. Everyone can certainly find something of value in there!

donna…
all i can say is: dildos.
you’re my hero =)
Now you know I like reading! lol, Compared to some of the stuff I’ve read I’d really like to check some of these titles out. Pictures & illustrations help -) I’ve studied a Karma Sutra guide before & realized I really need to work on my flexibility when I was like, how am I supposd to reach it from this angle? If you can’t laugh at yourself then who can u laugh at?
I’m still old school. Reading is fundamental….and i feel firmly that it helps in warding of Alzheimers! That’s my story….and i’m sticking to it!
